One of the most damaged cyclone "Nargis" hit Myanmar (Burma) on 2nd and 3rd May 2008, battering Ayeyarwady, Yangon, Bago divisions as well as Mon and Kayin States, with winds and sometimes high waves from the exceeding 190 kilometers an hour.

Ayeayarwady divsion suffered the worst, with at least over 70,000 reported dead the over 50,000 still missing according to the government's statement. The most heavily damaged towns were Bogale, Dedaye, Mawgyun, Labutta, Ngapudaw and Pyapon. Villages and towns in the Ayeyarwady Delta were directly hit by the storm and so over 10,000,000 people were left homeless. Also there are many children who had became orphans due to the loss of both parents as well as their brothers and sisters in the storm.

Seeing and feeling this situation, Venerable Sayadaw Dr. Ashin Dhammapiya and his devotees hence thougth to do something for them. Therefore the Sayadaw and his devotees established "the Child Aid Foundation". The foundation has three main objectives
(1) to help the orphans
(2) to look after the orphans and
(3) to prevent them from becoming waits and strays.

Ashin Dhamma Piya takes as Chairman and his disciples share the duty to save the orphans. Firstm this Founation takes teh statistics of orphans as correctly as possible. Secondly, the Foundation will helpe their education from primary level to high school level according to their ages. Then the outstanding students from amoungst the orpahs will be supported to attend the universities and colleges. In addition the Foundation will do its best students to prevent their lives from getting into evil ways.

As a financially self-supporting foundation setup by Ashin Dhamma Piya donations of any mount will be gratefully received and acknowledged and this will help the orphans and other victims of the Nagris storm.
